Obesity: The medical rationale for weight loss in obese individuals is that obesity is associated with a significant increase in mortality and many health risks including diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. Selection of treatment for overweight patient depends on the BMI. All patients who would benefit from weight loss should receive counseling on diet, exercise, and goals for weight management.

Medications are not : the best approach. Tthe following are FDA approved: Alli, Xenical (orlistat),Meridia (sibutramine), Adipex-P (phentermine) and Sanorex (mazindol). To lose weight insure that calories burned > calories consumed. Drink at least 8 - 8 oz glasses of water per day. Try for 8 hours of sleep/night. Aim for at least 5 servings of vegetables & 4 servings of fruit per day. Use whole grain when possible.
