Slow and Steady: The best results I have seen in teens who lost weight came from persistence. It started with the teen deciding for her/himself that they needed to make a change. Then most of them simply cut out junk food and make healthier choices for snacks. The other key is just to start moving more - walking, biking, jogging, a new school sport, aerobics at home.
