Different delivery: Luvox = "immediate release" form of fluvoxamine. Starting dose for adults is 50 mg/day & maximum dose is 300 mg/day. When titrated to >100mg/day, it is split into ½ of the dose in the AM, the other ½ 12 hours later or a lower dose in AM & higher dose in PM. Luvox CR = "slow onset", extended release form of fluvoxamine. Starting dose is 50 mg/day: max is 300mg/day given at bedtime, every 24 hours.

Convenience: Luvox is available in 25, 50 & 100 mg tablet strengths. Luvox CR comes as 100 and 150 mg capsules. The big advantage is that Luvox CR can be given as a single dose per day whereas, immediate-release Luvox should be given in divided doses if over 100 mg is prescribed.
