Increased mortality: Insufficient sleep is associated with increased risks of developing heart attacks, strokes, diabetes and obesity. It also leads to worsening of mental health conditions, mental alertness and performance ability . This is why sleep disorders such as sleep apnea are so important to treat . The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends at least seven hours of sleep per night based on research.
