A member asked:

What is the absolute minimum calorie intake number which doesn't suggest you are on a starvation diet , yet could still be able to walk hiking distanc?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Eat for hiking.: Look, hiking is tough. Hiking requires calories. You can't skimp on calories and then expect to hike regularly, unless you want to be unhealthy and undernourished and pass out on the trail someplace. If you're looking to lose weight or improve fitness, skimping on calories and compromising your health would not be the way to do it.
