Much too long: Nobody has ever been known to carry gonorrhea as long as 5 years. Almost all cases are self cured by the immune system within a few months. No complications are likely in absence of symptoms like discharge, painful urination, etc. Gonorrhea is almost never life threatening.

Yes, no.: Yes, it is possible. While you may show no symptoms of harboring the bacteria at all you can infect sexual partners, and most women will show symptoms so gonnorrhea always needs to be treated. It would be rare indeed for genital gonnorrhea to cause a life-threatening illness in a man, but you can develop symptoms at any time which can affect fertility and cause pain.
