Have you ever : noticed that your Caucasian friends don't get a suntan on the palms of their hands & soles of their feet? Everyone has a thick layer of skin called the stratum lucidum that protects our palms & soles against UV light, so our melanocytes don't have to produce melanin there. However, If your daughter's palms look whiter than usual, take her to her MD for a physical exam & labs to rule out anemia.
