About equal: The dosing of IR Nucynta (tapentadol) and hydrocodone (the narcotic in Vicodin) are pretty equivalent. No table I could find shows direct comparison of Vicodin to Nucynta (tapentadol). But 4mg morphine=12mg Hydrocodone. 4mg morphine=10mg Nucynta (tapentadol). So pretty comparable. Hope this helps. Best of luck. Dr. R

Hi, I am having surgery. MD prescribed Nucynta (tapentadol). How would this compare to Vicodin? Which one is stronger? What would be an equivalent dose of both?

Similar: Nucynta (tapentadol) is similar in strength to vicodin and other opioids that are given for post op pain. There is no equivalent dose, so there is no answer to that question. When it was studied it was compared to oxycodone and was found to be just as effective.
