I just found out i have angioedema that presents w/laryngeal stridor. it betters with epi/benedryl/steriods and recurs often. what kind of ang. is it?

Unknown: This must be very scary, unsettling and frustrating . Unfortunately most cases are of unknown cause once medicines and allergic triggers are ruled out. There is a very rare but manageable hereditary form. A simple blood test can determine that.

Likely allergic: Your description is inconsistent with some forms, such as hereditary or some drug (eg ACE inhibitor) induced angioedema. Do you also get hives? Are you taking preventative medication, such as antihistamines, at this time? It is critical that you see an Allergist to better define the disease and to potentially identify triggers. Many may recommend that you carry epipen (epinephrine) until more is known.

Duration?: If your angioedema is frequently associated with laryngeal swelling, you need to be sure that you don't have a condition known as hereditary angioedema (you may or may not have a family history )which does not respond to any of the medications mentioned.
