A member asked:

Mom 45+ on mammogram got a negative on right breast and birads 2 on the left. can this cause any harm? and how frequently should she go for mammogram

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No harm: Original dx of breast Ca made by palpating tumor mass. With mammo small non palpable tumors can now be defined. The better mammo now detects clusters of microcalcification which on localization bx can detect Ca in situ before invasive Ca develops. Birads 2 of minor significance and should be rechecked in 4-6 mo. If neg. repeat in 1 yr. Monthly physical still important in lying down position.
