Varies: You are describing an infectious process. It is hard to say by what you said how severe it is or what caused it, it may have been a bite. Safest thing would be to be seen and have doctor look at it. If it seems real mild, you could try applying an antibiotic ointment and if it does not get better with 24 hours or worsens at any point be seen.
