A member asked:

Would it be ok if i took one for a uti until i can get my other antibiotics because its spreading to my kidney?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: A UTI (bladder infection) has a very low risk of involving the kidney in an otherwise healthy woman. There would be greater risk with taking a single dose of an incorrect or old antibiotic which can lead to a potentially drug-resistant UTI. If you have symptoms of UTI along with fever/chills, seek care without delay. Otherwise try over-the-counter pyridium (phenazopyridine) (AZO) until you can see your doc
