A member asked:

Is it ok to take celexa (citalopram) if i have mitral valve prolapse & occasionally experience arrythmias - leaflet states to be cautious with heart conditions?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: Celexa (citalopram) can cause a prolonged QT interval. If a person has a long QT interval already when he or she starts taking Celexa (citalopram), it could cause a dangerous heart rhythm problem. However, Mitral Valve Prolapse does not cause QT interval prolongation, so generally, MVP is not a reason to avoid Celexa (citalopram). Hope this helps.
