See below: Getting a disorder is an eternal 'nature vs nurture' debate. There are some genetic components in BPD. Environment also plays a role. I look at a personality disorder as the way of relating to the environment, which to some extent is learnt. Everyone has some traits of 'personality disorder', but if you're able to function adaptively in social and work-related spheres, then it is not a disorder.
