A negative IgG at: 3 months after a sexual encounter reliably rules out HSV from that encounter. However, it doesn't mean you can't contract HSV from a subsequent encounter. You would need a repeat test only if you've had another, more recent, sexual encounter.

If you were: Tested because of suspicious lesions you should have a follow up test. If your sexual partner is positive for HSV you are at risk of contracting the virus with each encounter. Many partners go years without becoming positve. Antiviral medication prophylaxis for the infected partner reduces the negative partners risk but not to zero. Condoms also reduce risk. Be healthy- your immune system is impt.
