Methadone Dependence: I understand your distress Constipation is a side effect of methadone which is not relieved by Laxatives. Higher daily dose and frequency can make constipation worse, and may have other side effects. New drug out: that is JUST for constipation due to narcotics. The problme with laxatives is that the colon gets used to them and only works when they are there. The new drug is MOVANTIK
