My dr. wants to give me valium for anxiety, my family has a history with substance abuse so i have always stayed away from drugs/alcohol. is it ok?

Anxiety: I try to stay from benzodiazepines like Valium regardless of Family History but even more so given yours. Have you tried any SSRIs? Even before turning to medications, have you tried psychotherapy like cognitive behavioral therapy? It does wonders! And is side effect free. In meantime, ask your FamilyDoc to check for hyperthyroidism. And cut down on caffeine intake.
