Would you recommend i get an mri of my wrist if i am experiencing moderate throbbing pain in the carpal area behind my thumb and i am a regular weekend golfer (4-5x per month) just started icing for first time.

Not at first.: Talk to your doc about it. Often physical therapy is tried first and if no improvement, further tests can be done. MRI should wait, unless serious trauma caused the pain and x-rays were negative. This is usually a technique issue or undertraining. Any exercise should be done 3 x a week, or strength does not develop and you never get stronger.
