Family practice : It's because he was so use to not hearing normally that now it sounds so loud. This usually resolves however. Check with your dr if it bothers him much longer.

Not enough info: You need to supply more information about your son's development and age. Be sure he has had follow up with the ENT surgeon. Many conditions are independent of sound amplitude perception. See http://www.Ncbi.Nlm.Nih.Gov/pubmed/16649001.
