D dimer is tricky: Fundamentally, a lot of things elevate it and it clears fast. So, it isn't very good as an indicator especially when it is not huge. A clot can be there in a minor vein, go to the lung, be cleared, have no symptoms and elevate the d dimer with tests negative. Everyone can have some leg swelling, or blood clots can recur and be serious some times and not others. cannot say in your particular case.
