Erosion, dry, lag: It's hard to say but U may have anterior basement membrane dystrophy that can result in early morning awaking eye pain, as the corneal epithelium loosens leading to possible abrasion. Another thought is epithelial erosion syndrome with same symptoms. Possibly your eyes don't completely close at night leading to secondary episode epithelial drying & pain. An exam would help w/ Dx. Try Muro 128 ung.

Recurrent erosion: sounds like recurrent erosion of cornea. Use 5% NaCl ointmet at night for 6 weeks.

Eye dryness: The most common sequel to PRK is the development of eye dryness. This is more intense when you wake up and can even jiggle your newly formed corneal epithelium. Try applying non-medicated eye ointment at bedtime and syrupy tears like Systane or Refresh during the day. Your ophthalmologist can examine you for stability of the new epithelium. This usually works; there are more advanced methods.

Corneal Pain: Could be as simple as dry eyes or something more serious. Suggest seeing an ophthalmologist.

Dry eye: First get evaluated for pathology but sounds like dry rye which can follow lasik. Llacrilube ointment can be used st night but hydrating drops should be used during the day to limit these symptoms

Dry Eyes: The most common side effect / complication of Lasik is dry eyes, which can occur early, resolve, stay or can be a late complication. Initial treatment is usually OTC NON-MEDICATED eye drops. This should be tried first. You should also let your eye doctor know. If this does not work other options available including Restasis. If that is not the issue, then you may further work-up.

Postop corneal pain: I'm convinced that complex regional pain syndromes (formerly known as RSD) occur as frequently above the neck in every structure one'd like to discuss which is either traumatized or surgerized that the incidence is probably STAGGERING. I'd treat this patient's symptoms with that as a presumptive DX using standard of care interventions such as AED's, calcium channel blockers, baclofen, etc.

No problem: I can answer you from my experience with Prof. of ophthmology. Steinberg from UCI irvine. Most probably this is due to dry eyes. Keep Single use vials of tears which are free from preservative which is needed when you have Lasik. use 4 to 6 times a day.

Dry eyes?: I would try a course of restasis eye drops. I assume you have been examined recently by your Optho.

Ocular surface dz: LASIK or PRK? Either way, its still dry eyes. I would start off with artificial tears and warm compresses. If that's not enough, I'd go to Restasis next. There are other things to do, but I'd suggest you go see a general ophthalmologist who treat dry eyes.
