Need exam: Any new floaters seen in your vision need to be evaluated to determine if you have a retinal tear, or detachment. Flashing lights can be a symptom of both. Other medical conditions can mimic a retinal detachment, ie. An ocular migraine. Get an exam to be sure you don't have a sight threatening problem.

Ophthalmic migraine: Ophthalmic migraine is a condition where lights or irregular shapes occur lasting from 10 minutes to several hours. The vision may be obscured during this period. These episodes are self limited and go away without treatment. There is no headache or nausea.
