Difficult BM's: Drink adequate amounts of fluids daily and eat good amounts of fiber found in bran cereals, vegetables,salads and fruits and/or take metamucil daily. For very sluggish bowels, a daily stool softener like colace helps but some people need a gentle stimulant like senokot (senna). If you have the urge and can't move, insert a glycerin rectal suppository or, if needed, a dulcolax rectal suppository to empty..

Stool softener: There are several options. Try a stool softener. One of the most common is Colase. You can also try something natural like prunes out print juice. If you don't like the sound of that, you can take it in oil form, like Senekot. Mineral oil can be helpful. To prevent add fiber to your diet like Fibercon or psillium seeds and drink more water
