Probably just that: As doctors we don't usually call anything scars of the lungs so I can't be sure what you mean. Smoking may disrupt lung structure leading to what is called emphysema. Pulmonary fibrosis may occur spontaneously. Old pneumonia may leave permanent changes, which seems like a scar. There is no cure for these diseases but treatment may help. Your dad should get a lung specialist if at all possible.
