Sleep strategy: Your "thinking brain" and your "feeling brain" can inhibit each other. If you are trying to sleep but thinking, including observing that you are still awake, will keep you from getting to sleep. The feeling brain distracts the thinking brain so you can sleep. Running a fan in the room or focusing on how comfortable the bed feels, or any such thing allows sleep onset.
