Sleep paralysis: During the normal dreaming phase of sleep called REM SLEEP, the closed eyes dart around but the body is unable to move. This probably protects us from acting out our dreams. If you wake up during this phase and cannot move, it can be frightening or terrifying, especially if a dream is still going on!! Maintain healthy sleep habits and try wiggling your fingers and toes. It may help.
