A member asked:

High platelet count. existing ear infection and sinusitis. could this be a factor in thrombocytosis?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Thrombocytosis: While platelets do "react" to certain things and increase in number, infection is not usually one of these stimuli. However, if the degree of elevation is only mild or moderate, a repeat test is adequate follow-up. If the elevation is greater than 7-800k, then a bone marrow exam to evaluate for other disorders may be indicated.
