Check with your doc: 4weeks in a boot is usually ample for an ankle sprain, and the proof is that you are pain-free when walking without the boot. I think it's okay to stop with the boat - i recommend still ace wrapping the ankle for a week or two to give it some extra support. Best would be to check with the doc that diagnosed you.

Talk to your doctor: While no pain out of the boot is a good sign, you should discuss with your treating physician before discontinuing the boot completely. High ankle sprains can take a long time to heal.

Wean boot: You can slowly reduce your time in the boot as long as you continue to have no pain. At first, keep it on for longer walks. You would also benefit from judicial therapy to retrain the nerve and muscles of the foot (proprioception exercises) this is important to prevent re-sprain.

Need more time: Yes need to stay in the walking boot for perhaps 4-6 weeks, depending on the severity of your sprain. Do not remove the boot and the bandage at this time as with any sprain the ligaments need time to heal. Also only under your doctor's advise you should remove the boot.
