Abnormal liver tests: When the ALT is elevated, it can be a sign of liver problems. The first thing to do is completely avoid alcohol for 3 to 4 weeks, and then repeat the blood test. If it is still elevated, then you should see a gastroenterologist for further evaluation to determine the cause of the abnormal test. Good luck.

Transaminitis: The ALT you speak of is normal and the AST is only mildly elevated. Liver function tests are tricky to interpret and require much more information to give you an accurate answer. I can tell you that this mild of an elevation is usually no cause for worry.
