Can you maintain muscle while restricting calories but eating enough protein?

Yes: Restricted calories like the HCG diet of 500 per day = muscle loss. If you want to lose weight and maintain muscle mass, eat around 25 grams of protein 6 times per day. Three of those meals need a handful of veggie carbs. The book Fit For Life by Bill Phillips does an inspiring job showing how it's possible ! Also including resistance weight lifting and cardiovascular workouts.

Protein & muscle.: That certainly would help. Higher protein intake with lower calories and weight training along with cardio would help you maintain muscle mass while losing fat, for example.
