I got the Gouch.: What is true is that trauma or even surgery, such as foot or knee surgery, can se off a gout attack if you are predisposed to gout. Whether or not the serum uric acid levels will increase is really not as important as one may think. Full blown gout can exist with perfectly normal uric acid levels. Likewise, one can have elevated uric acid levels and are not having a gout attack. Go figure.

No: Ankle injury would not increase uric acid levels. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.
