A member asked:

I am 72 years old. my uric acid level is between 7.2 to 9.0 and i always has a bad gout on either my right foot or my right knee. every time i had gout attack, i always had a fever about 99.2 f. is this a normal to have fever when i had bad gout?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

I think the fever is a nonspecific reaction to the inflammatory process of acute gouty arthritis. I have seen generalized aching along with the inflamed joint and high uric acid level. Taking allopurinol daily ( after the acute attack resolves) usually lowers uric acid and prevents gout attacks. There are other preventative measures if you don't tolerate allopurinol.
