There is risk: Deep vein thrombosis is a blood clot adhering to the wall of a vein, typically in the leg, but can happen anywhere in the body. Once the clot is there the primary concern is that it can break free from the vascular wall (embolism) and move downstream and get lodged in the lung where it will damage the lung and possibly kill you if not treated right away. Prescribed blood thinners can prevent it.
