A member asked:

In order for stroke to happen in pregnancy would your bp have to be really high or a blood clot? if i monitor my bp &watch for dvt could i prevent it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Stroke in pregnancy: There is an increased risk of stroke during and soon after pregnancy, however, most cases are due underlying blood disorders, heart problems, vascular abnormalities, that likely one would know about and be monitored for more closely during pregnancy. High blood pressure, pre-eclampsia and eclampsia, also are risks, so YES, keeping BP controlled is very important! Tell your OB about leg swelling.
