SSRI side effects: It is possible to have the side effects you are having with the SSRI medication Prozac (fluoxetine). You should definitely let your PCP or Psychiatrist know of these issues as this may not be the drug for you.

Prozac (fluoxetine) side effect: SSRI in the beginning stages of the treatment cause some anorexia. But the underlying problem itself could be contributing to the loss of appetite, weight loss. The diagnosis may have to be reconsidered as bipolar disorder could be contributing to the manic episode

Prozac (fluoxetine) side effects: Decreased appetite on Prozac (fluoxetine) is uncommon, but should be reviewed right away with prescribing doctor. If more than a few pounds of otherwise unexplained weight loss, consider an alternative med. Prozac (fluoxetine) like other antidepressants can trigger hypomanic or manic states mostly in those genetically vulnerable to bipolar disorder. Taking Prozac (fluoxetine) requires careful medical supervision for these reasons.

Possible hypomanic: SSRIs are known to cause hypo manic or manic episode in bipolar patients, less likely to cause anorexia or any other eating disorder. SsRIs are rather used to treat those disorders

Yes.: SSRI’s can cause diminished appetite and may precipitate mania in susceptible individuals. Without knowing more about your history, I would recommend that you please contact your prescriber about these side effects immediately. Good luck!
