Hormonal imbalance: Usually with pcs you will see irregular o no periods, excessive hair growth, acne, unable to get pregnant. It is a problem related to an imbalance between the male and female hormones, and is diagnosed by symptoms as well as by blood measurement of hormones. It can also be associated with obesity.

Diet & exercise: A low glycemic diet and strength training exercise once our twice per week can do wonders. While you would still need to see a doctor, maximin is free at publix pharmacy.

Common, treatable : Pcos is very common. Tests are generally not necessary. You need to have 2 out of these 3 things to be diagnosed: absent or infrequent periods, signs of excess testosterone ( excess hair growth or acne), and/or infertility. For most women, diet, exercise and weight loss is very helpful. If you are able to see a doctor, the medication metformin is very inexpensive.

Nutritional Rx: Pcos is caused by high estrogen (e2)combined with high Insulin which then transforms e2 into testosterone. Excess carbs can elevate both Insulin (via stimulation of pancreas) and e2 (via competitive inhibition of glucoronidase enzyme) a low carb diet reduces both Insulin & e2 thus positively impacting this metabolic disease. Avoid fried foods, veg oils, soy.
