Continue cold water: You can also try aspirin or naproxen or ibuprofen. The pain will gradually subside. Avoid antibiotics and antiseptics. Bacitracin or neosporin are no better than vaseline (Aquaphor) and may cause allergic reactions. Use vaseline frequently.

Apply a dressing.: Megan, you have what is probably a 2nd degree burn. They hurt! The fact that the skin covering is raised means that it is a blister, and that it is leathery means that top skin is already dead. This is good. The pain will go away soon. Take some Tylenol; and apply a clean dry dressing. Secret: ONLY tonight and tomorrow morning, apply a little steroid cream under the dressing. frm N Saanich
