Both: Metabolic syndrome refers to a constellation of findings: low HDL, high TG, excess BP, excess abdominal girth, excess glucose,etc. etc. As such it is important to watch your sugar intake (no sodas, no breakfast cereals with >10 g sugar/serving, etc), and increase your intake of "good fats" = avocado, salmon, walnuts (handful/day), and exercise (walk even!! daily).
