A member asked:

Is it true that people with cancer of the pancreas without lymph node involvement that has a whipple operation can live 3 years at best?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Questionable: Cancer of the pancreas even when operable is mostly fatal, After a Whipple with neg nodes the 2 yrs. survival is about 10%. Wih Gemzar (gemcitabine) for recurrence, a 3 mo improvement is noted and with abraxane add an additional 7 wks. New mAbs targeting oncofetal proteins such as post translational modifications of MUC5ac add significant improvement and with immunochemo results will be better.
