Try simple first.: I am not clear as to which knuckle you are describing. It is either the joint in the big toe itself or the joint where the big toe meets the main body of the foot. If the bump becomes worse while wearing a certain shoe style, then change the shoes. This may be the easiest solution. Possibly there is an underlying fungal infection. Try using a topical anti fungal. Have it examined by a doctor.
