Bone Smack.: You need to take a close look to see if there is any residual swelling or bruising. These are indicators that the injury is more involved. Due to the thin skin around the ankle area, the surface of the bone can become very painful, especially if the periosteum if damaged. If ice isn't helping, then apply moist heat to calm the inflamed nerves. Your pain should slowly resolve, if not, see a doctor.
