Likely benign: I suspect you might have felt a little light headed or faint at the time as well. If that's the case, sitting down or even leaning forward with your head between you knees, and taking some fluids will help. The feeling shortly passes without problem Hope that helps.

Likely not: A whiteout is the result of transient loss of blood pressure. It commonly accompanies fainting. For whatever reason your BP dropped briefly. This can even occur when standing up quickly after having sat for some time. In this case the bodies reflexes to maintain normal blood pressure to the brain were a bit sluggish. The visual center is more susceptible than other parts of the brain to low BP

A 21-year-old member asked:

What can I do if i've already lost some vision from glaucoma?

Dr. Robert Chang
Specializes in Ophthalmology
Good followup: The key to slowing down vision loss from glaucoma is having regular testing with a glaucoma care specialist and using a therapy that lowers eye pressure enough to preserve vision while avoiding side effects. If it's a medication, then proper usage and compliance/persistence are critical.
A 21-year-old member asked:

It depends: Depending on the severity of the wet or dry form, macular degeneration is generally progressive. The rate is highly variable but with increasing severity, the central vision may become blurred and distorted while the peripheral vision remains essentially intact.

Vision correction: There are constant improvements in eyeglasses and contacts. Laser vision correction now is in its fourth (and excellent) generation. Newer medications and surgical techniques now can help those with eye disease. If you have a problem, consult with your ophthalmologist.
A 21-year-old member asked:

If the patient have lost already some vision from glaucoma, what could you do?

Dr. Cynthia Point
Specializes in Internal Medicine
Laser or medications: Glaucoma happens when the optic nerve is damaged , usually by high pressures in the back of the eye. Peripheral vision is the first to be harmed. Eye drops can lower the pressure and so can a special laser treatment. By reducing the eye pressures, further damage can be lessened.
