Sprain or Fracture: You may have a simple strain meaning you tore some of the soft tissue structures at the base of the finger. That could be either ligament or even some of the small muscles. The other possibility is you fractured the bone at the base of the finger. That will most likely need some sort of immobilization. Keep the finger in a splint for several days and if the pain gets better it is not likely to be
