Now: TMJ problems can become problematic as time passes. For best results, see a TMJ-orofacial specialist for advice. If treated early, can be controlled. Any dentist can be a TMJ expert with the proper training and experience. Most commonly, oral surgeons, prosthodontists, and orofacial pain specialists. Ask your MD, your dentist and your dental society for referrals.

TMJ disorders are never cured, just maintained. If you have been suffering with a longevity issue, it should be addressed asap. Popping of the jaw joint or joints can lead into locking (CLOSED LOCK- limited opening or OPEN LOCK- inability to close, with CLOCKED LOCK the most common.) I have seen several patients whom cannot open even wider than a straw . Be seen asap to avoid misery!
