Weight loss is key: It is not uncommon for a teenage girl to have her periods stop after weight loss, especially if it is a lot (e.g. more than 10 lb). The most common causes are lots of exercise (e.g. competitive swimming) with not enough food intake, or an eating disorder. Regaining the lost weight usually restarts periods but it can take a while. Eating disorder?: If your recent weight loss is due to a eating disorder such as anorexia or bulimia then your period will not return unless and until the initial issue is resolved. If your weight loss is NOT due to the above, then a reasonably normal body weight (BMI) will spontaneously resolve unless there is an associated GYN problem. Check with your MD is no period in 3 months.
