How can x rays films reveal muscle spasms and inflammation of the spine (including ribs)?

MRI best: An MRI is usually the best test to look for muscular and spinal abnormalities. The details and physics of MRI are complicated, but basically use magnetic energy with or without intravenous contrast to "see" the details of the tissue under the skin. It is different from traditional "x-rays". Hope this helps!

They can't: A spasm is not seen on an xray.
