Minimal difference: The medication you have been given is the generic form of the brand. This means the part of the pill that carries the active medication may be different but the active chemical form of the drug is the same. The FDA allows a small variation of the amount of active drug per pill. Whether you notice a difference will depend on your metabolism but minimal if at all. Not dangerous.

Safe to try: The generic name for Zoloft (made by one company) is sertraline (made by different companies). Generics work well and cost much less than the brand. However, if you notice any difference in effectiveness let your doctor know. A small percent of people do better on the brand. Hope this helps.
