What's the liletta iud and what makes it different from the mirena, (levonorgestrel) paragard, and skyla?

Similar to Mirena (levonorgestrel): The Liletta IUD contains the same type & amount of hormone (Levonorgestrel) as the MIirena IUD. It will likely work the same, though it is currently only FDA-approved for 3yrs (vs 5yrs for Mirena), and does not have the treatment indication for heavy menstrual bleeding. ParagardLiletta is less expensive than other IUDs, especially in federally funded clinics.

Iud: The paragaurd iud does not contain any hormones. The Mirena, (levonorgestrel) skyla and liletta all contain progesterone. The skyla and liletta are slightly thinner and smaller and it is felt are easier to insert because of this fact. The three containing progesterone, as a major side effect have abnormal bleeding. This may be bleeding everyday or no bleeding at all or anything in between.

Liletta: Liletta is the newest of the IUDs on the market. It contains the same hormone as Mirena (levonorgestrel) and Skyla and releases almost the same amount per day as Mirena (levonorgestrel) (19 mcg vs. 20 mcg.) It has been approved for 3 years like Skyla but studies are on going looking at its effectiveness for a longer period of time. It may be available free for those without insurance.
