To prevent STDs: Not to improve the pregnancy prevention but always a good idea for sexual transmitted disease prevention. The Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud is one of the most effective forms of birth control even besting the results of a tubal ligation.

Always a good idea: Iud's can increase the risk of infection and condoms will decrease the chance of spreading infections. Also a good idea to use 2 methods for contraception because nothing reversible is effective 100% of the time.
