Injury: It is probably more important to make sure the person takes in enough protein to help with healing as well as vitamin C. Increased intake of calories may not be enough. watch for alternative points of view from other physicians

Yum Yum: Injured tissue relies on some essential vitamin, minerals and proteins to help with the repair. These include Vitamins A,C, foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids like salmon. Zinc is thought to help with repair. Zinc can be found in chicken and nuts. Of course proteins as found in beef, chicken and eggs.

Talk: The best way is to talk. Many moms fear that their partner will not find them sexy (often the opposite is true!) or partners fear they will harm the baby with sex. Talk about your fears to each other and discuss safety questions with your doc. Both of you will see your changing body in an exciting and different way during pregnancy.

Daily: For optimal cardiovascular health and to decrease the risk of gestational diabetes and high blood pressure, you should get some form of exercise every day. This can be as simple as walking after meals. Try to find activities you enjoy or walk with a friend to help you stick to it.

Are low calorie sports drinks acceptable, or is the sugar also vital to my recovery?

Healthy sugar is OK : There is increasing evidence that sweetened drinks can be detrimental to health, according to many nutritionists and physicians. The same applies to sweet and carbonated drinks, according to dentists. If a woman thinks she needs to replace fluids and electrolytes after intense exercise and/or sweating, she could have a low-calorie sports drink along with a piece of fruit or other healthful snack.

Liver Health: Avoid liver damaging substances - alcohol, street drugs, Acetaminophen (tylenol) more than 4000mg a day. Many medications and supplements can cause liver damage, so review that with your doctor. If you are overweight, lose weight. If you have a viral infection (hep b or hep c) get it treated! eat a heart-healthy diet. Exercise regularly.

What is the minimum amount of calories I should consume per day to remain healthy?

Depends.: You need to get your resting metabolism rate checked to see what your rate is. This guideline of everyone eating 2000cal has caused tremendous problems. I check resting rates and most women are between 1100-1500calories and in the rest weight range! so customize this to get the right info.
